OBSESSIONS. DECORATION. SALIENT FACTS. 22 ART NOTES I nspired by the empowerment, experimentation, and playfulness of the 1980s, Bulgari creative director Lucia Silvestri looked to Andy Warhol for the latest High Jewelry collection, Wild Pop. Warhol, a friend of Nicola Bulgari and fan of the brand, frequently incorporated Bulgari into Interview shoots and owned several pieces himself. Audacity in fashion, futuristic dreams, and music play out in the collection as well, with opulent sculptural and geometric shapes, and vibrant gemstones. At the Bulgari boutique, bulgari.com. Presented by Brooklyn-based Art Market Productions — whose portfolio includes the Seattle Art Fair, backed by Microsoft co-founder Paul G. Allen — much excitement centers around this expanded version of the Texas Contemporary. While Hurricane Harvey forced the cancellation of last year's fair, the show must go on, and so it will October 4 through 7 at George R. Brown Convention Center — for the first time ever sans a competing fair. Fair director Kelly Freeman says there's been exceptional interest in exhibiting in Houston from galleries across the U.S., Europe, and Asia; Freeman says it could go as high as 75 galleries. txcontemporary.com. At Barbara Davis Gallery, international conceptualist Andrea Bianconi arrives from outside of Venice to showcase a nuanced show edged with Surrealism — one that would be at home at the Menil. The artist rewards gallery goers with one of this performances. (September 7, performance 7:30 pm; through October 6) … At Gremillion & Co. Fine Art, the collectible Fernando Casas solos, a magic realist whose paintings possess an otherworldly quality as they recall human narratives and life cycles. Pay close attention to Casas' drawings – that's where the extraordinary reigns. (September 13 – October 13). Doubleheader: Thursday, September 13, McClain Gallery presents a stellar show for a pair of former MFAH Core Fellows — Sharon Engelstein and Aaron Parazette — who also happened to be married. It's only upon rare occasions, however, when they are in dialogue together. See Engelstein's biomorphic sculpture in tandem with Parazette's hard-lined canvases in "Each to the Other" (through October 20). Paper Flowers: At Laura Rathe Fine Art, Zhuang Hong Yi arrives from Beijing, bringing his latest series — one that is all about the blooms (September 7 – October 13) Catherine D. Anspon.
