SHALL WE? SETH VAUGHAN PROMPTS WEDDING INSIDERS TO TELL US WHAT THEY EXECUTED, EXPERIENCED OR SIMPLY LONGED FOR OVER THE PAST YEAR WHEN IT CAME TO NUPTIALS. FROM GIVENCHY GOWNS IN RURAL CHURCHES TO CASCADING RIBBONS AS ROAD SIGNS FOR COUNTRY WEDDINGS, WE SAY I DO TO BLISSFUL DETAILS. PWL STUDIOS DAVID BROWN David Brown Flowers • A spectacularly chic wedding in a one-room 19thcentury wooden country church that had a potbelly stove in the center of the aisle that the bride had to walk around. She wore a mini-length Givenchy gown. Sometimes smaller is better. • A New Orleans wedding held in a church on St. Charles Avenue at dusk. Without even trying, it created a memorable event reminiscent of an old New Orleans street promenade as guests crossed the avenue then up the steps into the front door of the house where the reception was held. • I love doing a cake base completely paved in blossoms. • I like at least three lighting moods: subtle for the ceremony, colors at the reception, then sapphire blue at the end of the evening to visually wind everything down, like a perfect midnight sky. • Glamour and detailing such as jewels in bouquets and even men's boutonnière. • I appreciate a bride with the guts to Watters do a gown in color. MICHAEL MARTINEZ JAY GOLDMAN JAY GOLDMAN • Personalization of the wedding with monograms or another aspect important to the bride and groom. • Lace wedding dresses. • Cashmere blankets, silk throws, ballet slippers and flip-flops arranged like they might be at home. • Creating an intimate space in a formal garden or other area of a venue by using sofa seating, chairs and ottomans … to feel at home. • Creating a video toast starring members of the wedding party and friends to be viewed at the rehearsal dinner. • Wedding invitations with a brown or mushroomcolored font instead of traditional black. JACKSON HICKS • A return to home-style wedding cakes. Desserts that focus on flavor made up in smaller sizes, allowing for multiples. • Late-night foods and beverages. • Romantic mixtures of tables, chairs, linens and centerpieces that are creative and don't rely upon matching every pattern. • Long wedding weekends with planned activities for the bridal party and close family friends. • Family-style service of food. • Seated dinner weddings rather than a reception format. LUVI WHEELOCK Owner, Casa de Novia Bridal Couture • Smaller, intimate weddings. We saw a tremendous amount of weddings take place in restaurants versus traditional venues. • Long tables, again emphasizing intimacy, even in seating. • Outdoor weddings. People are looking for a more organic feel and are thus opting for the Hill Country, ranches, farms and beaches. • Bar food stations rather than a seated dinner. • Blush wedding gowns. Girls are not afraid to add some color to their day. • Mini desserts rather than the large traditional cake. • Monogramming. • Overall, things are more romantic. Not as modern as a few years ago. MICHAEL'S COOKIE JAR JOANBridal Salon PILLOW Joan Pillow • An increase in sparkle — every bride wants to shine. Adding a fabulous touch of beading to the gown is a wonderful way to dazzle. • Brides wished to create a "double look" when selecting their wedding gown: one with more sleeve coverage during the ceremony and another more flirty look for the reception. • Adding jackets and overskirts to their dresses following the wedding so they can be worn during a special event, gala or just a night out on the town. CHRISTOPHER BAILEY CHRISTOPHER BAILEY Christopher Bailey Photography FEBRUARY | PAGE 40 | 2013 ER BA ILE Y BROOKE SCHWAB • Antler arrangements. • Fireworks on the exit. • Destination beach weddings, often incorporating wish lanterns. • Creating a bar scene or a football game watching area. • Destination: New Orleans. • Silhouette-cutting artists. • Live art painting. Monique Lhuillier at Joan Pillow Bridal Salon CHRISTOPHER BAILEY T RIS CH • A return to the garden style of flower arrangements, which are looser and more flowing. • Incorporating natural elements, such as fruit, into tablescapes. • Large tent weddings with mixed themes such as "Elegance with a touch of Mexico." • Tent weddings with bright happy colors that incorporate personal touches, such as table numbers printed on thinly shaved wood. • Fun, playful areas for guests to relax, with a different feel from the rest of the wedding. • Collections of mixed, interesting containers with simple flowers for centerpieces and a detailed cloth beneath. • Cakes with cute handmade toppers. • Cascading ribbons to alert guests to turn into the drive at a country wedding.
