An Art-Felt Night Setting the tempo Mark Fein Ginny Fein Holly & Adam Krug Thad Smith Touched by works of Art + Advocacy Sarah Smith A BY AMY ADAMS. PHOTOGRAPHY KRISTINA BOWMAN. rt + Advocacy at the Fashion Industry Gallery made me realize there's something significant missing from my life: an anonymous benefactor of my very own. The latter was particularly germane to the success of this year's recordsmashing event, as a certain unidentified individual contributed $110,000 over the course of the evening, which added to overall fundraising efforts for the Dallas Children's Advocacy Center that topped the $500,000 mark. Honorary chairman Marlene Sughrue — no slouch in the style department — gave high marks to the fashionable crowd more than 600 strong: "There was such a great mix — some whimsical pieces, some traditional pieces, and some very creative ensembles. And, of course, lots of black." But lest you think it was all about fantastic art, designer ready-to-wear, freeflowing champagne and a pad thai station that had more than one guest sneaking seconds (and thirds), chairman Lindsay Jacaman offered some perspective. "The second I stepped foot into the Dallas Children's Advocacy Center, I knew I'd be committed to this cause for a long time. Thanks to the efforts of the staff there, I was able to witness the resilience of children who have managed to push through darkness to get to a better place." Modern works by artists such as Rusty Scruby and Murielle White ensured that such good deeds would continue due to some no-holds-barred bidding during the live auction led by Ed Beardsley and Gail Sachson. In total, more than 100 items generated serious competition amongst the collectors on hand, with many scooped up during the preview party earlier in the week. This was no surprise to honorary chairman (and co-founder of the wildly popular Dallas Art Fair) John Sughrue who explained, "Dallas is known internationally as a center for the contemporary and visual arts. The collectors — and collections — here are growing in both quality and number." Making things count: Tom Denolf, Allen and Virginia Davis, Annie and Stuart McLeod, Melanie Wick, Lynn Davis, Leah Leybovich, Amanda Reed, Megan and Carson Hall, Jill Rowlett, Rob and Caroline Belanger, Chris Bramel, and Evan Rottet.
