T he fall social season offers plenty of oppor- tunities for adults to live out their child- hood fantasies, from frolicking in the Perot Museum of Nature and Science after-hours to rubbing shoulders with penguins and cheetahs at the Dallas Zoo. But, we have to say, PaperCity's Sylva & Cie and Ashley Pittman dinner at Stanley Korshak, hosted by Courtney and Kevin Mokorow, was what dreams are made of. Picture a dramatically long banquet table — beautifully set, lit with candles, and accented by moody flowers and ghost chairs — straight down the middle of Stanley Korshak's iconic uptown store. The doors are closed to the public, but staff members are on hand, as well as servers pouring up champagne and passing canapes. One end of the table is just next to the glimmering cosmetics cases and, at the far end, shoes. (Head of the table was, for obvious reasons, a coveted seat.) All along the way, the star of the evening was the jewelry. Between courses, guests passed a bauble or two down the table, while designers told the stories behind each one. Dinner was nearly as decadent as the gems on display. The salad course was of lacinato kale with charred grapes, pancetta crumbles, pistachios, shaved parmesan, and lemon vinaigrette, followed by a duet of filet mignon and Chilean sea bass, served with a light pinot noir sauce, parsnip purée, gateau of golden potato, butternut squash, and rainbow chard. A divine dark-chocolate and sea-salt tart capped the night off on a sweet note.
