CHIC CHEETAHS AT THE DALLAS ZOO I t was nearly 48 hours before Zoo To Do, the annual fund- raiser for the Dallas Zoo, and weather forecasts were less than ideal. Event chairs Kim and Greg Hext made a game-time decision to change the venue from the zoo's outdoor grounds to the Hyatt Regency Dallas — and, quite literally, brought the zoo downtown. In an impressive feat of adaptability, the hotel was transformed into an exotic jungle, with a strolling dinner of chef creations from Abacus, CBD Provisions, Gemma/Sachet, Imoto, Parigi, Shinsei, and more. As always, the guests of honor stole the spotlight: a very friendly penguin, a hungry anteater, and, the belle of the ball, Winspear the cheetah, who is named for a certain prominent Dallas family. BOWIE AND DINO BONES AT THE PEROT T here are many reasons why the Perot Museum of Nature and Science's Night at the Museum Gala is on our must-attend list. One is its all-out ded- ication to a theme. Chairs Heather and Chris Gilker and Linda and Ken Wimberly invited more than 1,000 guests to "Rock the Perot" — which they did, with the help of David Bowie and Prince impersonators, a violinist playing Metallica, geode-encrusted cakes, and a Guitar Hero competition. While partygoers may have been too busy rocking out to appreciate details such as the extensive selection of rocky soil wines, the evening raised a cool $1 million.
