Haas Scratched Lizard Vessel, limited edition of 15, $3,500 KAWS AND EFFECT D uring Dior's Summer 2019 men's show, the best-dressed character in attendance wasn't sitting front row, nor was he stomping down the runway. It was a rather large version of Monsieur Dior himself, as interpreted by the contemporary artist KAWS, whose work has crossed boundaries from fine art to fashion, cartoons to graphic design. This show was a big moment for Dior — being the first collection designed by the fashion house's new artistic director, Kim Jones — and with it came a monumental display. In the middle of the spherical catwalk, KAWS's well- known BFF character stood at least 30 feet tall, wearing a tailored suit and holding a replica of Dior's Bobby perfume bottle, which Dior designed in 1952 to resemble the likeness of his beloved pup. Oh, and KAWS's version of Dior was also bubble-gum pink and covered in flowers. Witty, non? KAWS mania continues this month with the release of two limited- edition BFF dolls, which act as avatars for Christian Dior. Each monsieur wears a look made by Dior's ateliers: One in a perfect denim jacket and jeans for day, while the other is dapper in a smoking; both ensconced in a Lucite case.
