letter publisher 22 JONATHAN ZIZZO P erhaps I'm biased, but April is my favorite month. My husband and I both celebrate our birthdays this month … But cake, candles, and presents aside, April always invigorates and inspires me as I welcome spring with open arms. And, if there is ever a month to be a proud Dallasite, it's April. This is also a particularly exciting time for us, as PaperCity is the proud media sponsor of a bevy of events throughout the month. Here's all you need to know (and attend). We kick things off with the highly anticipated Soluna, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra's month-long festival running April 4 through 28. The DSO partners with internationally renowned artists and our city's most compelling arts organizations — including The Dallas Opera, Dallas Contemporary, the Crow Collection of Asian Art, and Texas Ballet Theater — on a series of multimedia performances that is beyond impressive. For our editor's must-attend events, turn to page 88. That weekend is a busy one, to be sure, as we continue the fight against Alzheimer's with the AWARE Affair gala on Friday, April 5, chaired by Ginny Bond Fein and Sarah B. Smith. That same night, Dallas Contemporary, of which PaperCity is the annual media partner, will unveil its inaugural SS19 Gala, which is really part gala and part exhibition opening. On Saturday, April 6, we look forward to the Nasher Prize Gala honoring the 2019 Nasher Prize Laureate, Isa Genzken, whose evocative and unpredictable work has inspired the world over. With much anticipation, the Women's Council of the Dallas Arboretum hosts its annual Mad Hatter's Tea on Thursday, April 11. Co-chairs Sharla Bush and Terry Irby have announced the theme as The Golden Age of Hollywood, with another Tootsies fashion show produced by the always-amazing Jan Strimple. Ladies, mark your calendars and find your closest milliner. The Dallas Art Fair makes its return this month, with the Preview Gala on Thursday, April 11, and public opening Friday, April 12 (through Sunday, April 14), at Fashion Industry Gallery. We look forward to immersing ourselves in the fair's multitude of exhibitors and innovative programming. In between gallery hopping, on Friday, April 12, you can find us at the Chick Lit Luncheon, this year featuring none other than Bravo TV star Andy Cohen. As the month winds down, PaperCity is thrilled to celebrate a new partnership with the Children's Cancer Fund. The annual gala, chaired by Kimberly Schlegel Whitman and honoring Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach, takes place Friday, April 26. For the pretty-young set, there is Ronald McDonald House of Dallas' annual Young Friends party that same night. And, last but not least, on Sunday, April 28, the Nasher Sculpture Center hosts its kid-friendly fundraiser The Great Create. We like to call it Coachella for kiddos.
