Willaford continues his signature acrylic on cut-and-stitched billboard vinyl. This series of abstractions, more intricate than ever, also conjures up Frank Stella's '80s-era Moby Dick prints and sculpture … At Laura Rathe Fine Art, designer fave Lucrecia Waggoner solos. The Dallas-based artist is known for her porcelain installations, organic wall works that recall lichen sprouting from tree trunks, often edged in gold (May 11 – June 15). Doubleheader: At Carneal Simmons Contemporary Art, Texas talents David Willburn and Carmen Menza make work about a new language of abstraction and light-based odes to outer space, respectively (through June 8). Each exhibition title serves up a stanza of poetry that evokes the work on view: Willburn's "Rainbow Riot at the Snowflake Ball" and Menza's "Unfolding the Sun." Art and Activism: Artist Giovanni Valderas has stepped up to run for City Council to represent his Oak Cliff neighborhood (cast your vote Saturday, May 4). Carolyn Sortor has won the Meadows M u s e u m 2 0 1 8 M o s s / C h u m l e y North Texas Artist Award. Sortor's OccuLibrary, recreating the destroyed libraries of the Occupy movement, is now a permanent installation at The MAC. Catherine D. Anspon L a La Land Kind Cafe checks all the boxes. It has an extensive menu of coffee, matcha, and organic snacks, and it's located in a renovated 100-year-old house in hipster Lower Greenville, with ample parking and a back patio suitable for pups. The interior is equal parts cozy and cool, but the most important box La La Land checks is one of social responsibility. Billy Fong F orget cat burglars raiding the jewelry box and car thieves hot-wiring your Benz: Marauding coyotes are the newest headache for residents of Highland Park and University Park. The outbreak has caused such a stir that UP officials recently launched an interactive map on the town's website to track the wily beasts' intrusion into the Bubble. Since January, the animals have paraded into the front yards of three houses; in a separate incident, one leaped onto a front porch. Perhaps he just wanted a better look at the Damien Hirst … Coyotes traverse busy roads even in broad daylight with apparent ease. One was seen bounding south across busy Lovers Lane at Baltimore Drive, a neighborhood known for spacious estates and broad lawns. Visitors to mom-and- kid-friendly Curtis, Goar, and Germany parks have spied them, too. Two cats and a dog have been killed by coyotes this year, putting pet owners on high alert. Packs of howling Canis latrans — the Latin name for coyote, meaning barking dog — have been heard in the Park Cities for decades, including on the fringes of the Dallas Country Club. Wildlife officials estimate between 200 to 300 coyotes roam University Park at any given time.
