SALIENT FACTS. 20 R alph Lauren's gleaming new store has opened in The Galleria after a three-month renovation and reformulation, as part of the brand's focus on energizing the iconic name across key cities, including Houston. The boutique is now a multi-label store, relocated between Montblanc and Louis Vuitton, housing men's and women's Polo, Collection, Purple Label, and RRL under one roof. Spanish Revival residences inspired the design of the new store: The limestone- and-plaster storefront has wrought-iron details, while the interior follows through with tumbled French limestone, h a n d - t r o w e l e d p l a s t e r w a l l s , custom-finished oak millwork, aged- brass hardware, vintage furnishings, and fine art. New to the Houston store are vintage offerings, including silver jewelry, as well as a private VIP salon, made-to- measure, personal styling, and an on-site master tailor. (Don't believe me? Just look at a month of Rothko Chapel programming.) Three museums carry on the mission this month. The Houston Museum of African American Culture mounts "Close to Home: Latinx Art and Identity 2.0" (through August 3). Curated by museum CEO John Guess Jr. and culled A kris creative director Albert Kriemler has collaborated with the L.A. architects of the new Menil Drawing Institute, Sharon Johnston and Mark Lee of Johnston Marklee, to create a scarf in celebration of the opening. The cashmere/silk scarf features a photo-print rendering of the Institute, the fifth building to join the Menil neighborhood, and the first addition in 20 years. "The trees are germane to the way that light will work in the building," Johnston says. The trees dapple the scarf, creating a beautiful green pattern when tied. The limited- edition scarf retails for $895. Harriett and Ricardo Romo of San Antonio, HMAAC restages an exhibition just presented by University of Houston Downtown's O'Kane Gallery during "Latino Art Now!" Its focus is the Latinx talents of today, from L.A. to the hotbed that is Texas. Watch for works by Vincent Valdez, Franco Mondini-Ruiz, Ana Fernandez, and Michael Menchaca … At the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, the half-century since the Stonewall riots sparked the gay-rights movement is in the limelight. "Stonewall 50," curated by the CAMH's Dean Daderko, yields forgotten figures such as Thomas Lanigan- Schmidt, whose intimate sculptures enveloped in glittering material shimmer with the transcendental (through July 28) … Station Museum of Contemporary Art shows a melding of film and contemporary opera in "Democracia / Order," which questions global imperialism through the chilling metaphor of riot police. Filmed in London, Dublin, and the streets of Houston, its content hits close to home (through August 18). The Art Prince De-Acquisitions: At Heidi Vaughan Fine Art, Texas' own Medici Lester Marks parts with select works in his private collection to make room for more. The centerpiece of a secondary-market exhibition and sale spun around PrintHouston, the gallery will offer creations by red-hot KAWS, as well as Chuck Close, Jasper Johns, Picasso, and Larry Bell (through June 22).
