OBSESSIONS. DECORATION. SALIENT FACTS. 20 R alph Lauren's gleaming new store has opened in The Galleria after a three-month renovation and reformulation, as part of the brand's focus on energizing the iconic name across key cities, including Houston. The boutique is now a multi-label store, relocated between Montblanc and Louis Vuitton, housing men's and women's Polo, Collection, Purple Label, and RRL under one roof. Spanish Revival residences inspired the design of the new store: The limestone- and-plaster storefront has wrought-iron details, while the interior follows through with tumbled French limestone, h a n d - t r o w e l e d p l a s t e r w a l l s , custom-finished oak millwork, aged- brass hardware, vintage furnishings, and fine art. New to the Houston store are vintage offerings, including silver jewelry, as well as a private VIP salon, made-to- measure, personal styling, and an on-site master tailor. (Don't believe me? Just look at a month of Rothko Chapel programming.) Three museums carry on the mission this month. The Houston Museum of African American Culture mounts "Close to Home: Latinx Art and Identity 2.0" (through August 3). Curated by museum CEO John Guess Jr. and culled A kris creative director Albert Kriemler has collaborated with the L.A. architects of the new Menil Drawing Institute, Sharon Johnston and Mark Lee of Johnston Marklee, to create a scarf in celebration of the opening. The cashmere/silk scarf features a photo-print rendering of the Institute, the fifth building to join the Menil neighborhood, and the first addition in 20 years. "The trees are germane to the way that light will work in the building," Johnston says. The trees dapple the scarf, creating a beautiful green pattern when tied. The limited- edition scarf retails for $895.
