30 ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONISM SHELBY HODGE GOES MODERN. PHOTOGRAPHY JENNY ANTILL CLIFTON, WILSON PARISH. W ith anticipation percolating for the 2020 opening of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston Nancy and Rich Kinder Building, Grand Gala Ball chairs Susanne and Bill Pritchard — nationally recognized collectors of abstract expressionists — chose Abstraction: Moving into Modern as the theme of the gilded Grand Gala evening. On display were 10 paintings that will be housed in the new building, which is dedicated to post-1900 MFAH collections — an elegant tease of what's to come. Trenton Doyle Hancock's 54-foot-long Good Vegan Procession #5 provided a colorful backdrop for the seated dinner dance in Cullinan Hall; The Events Company swathed acrylic tables in boldly colored paint and flowers to echo the bright mural. The Harry Winston Brilliant Futures Charitable Program, presenting sponsor for the evening, added to the glamour quotient by draping white-gowned models in dazzling diamond jewels. In a twist on traditional entertainment, the Pritchards invited rocker Bruce Hornsby to entertain before City Kitchen began dinner service. Closing out the night, which raised $1.9 million, were Jessie's Girls, which had the intimate clutch dancing into the wee hours. WHO: Harry Winston vice president of U.S. retail Michael Moser and Houston store director Petra Martinez, as well as Cherie and Jim Flores, Sara Dodd, Susan and Fayez Sarofim, Carol and Mike Linn, Scott and Soraya McClelland, Mona and Andrew Sarofim, Phoebe and Bobby Tudor, Franci Neely, Cathy and Joe Cleary, Ann and Karl Stern, Jeanie Kilroy Wilson and Wally Wilson, and Marcy Taub Wessel and Tom Wessel.
