Latter-Day Saint Laurent Paris, 29 Highland Park Village, 214.780.0184; ysl.com GQ christened Hedi Slimane "The Prince of Darkness" back in 2005 when the designer introduced his first grittily gorgeous men's collection for Christian Dior. Since then, he's courted controversy by taking his scissors to the "Yves" in Saint Laurent Paris after being named its creative director last fall. Whether you were horrified or electrified by his audacity, you can't argue with the results, as evidenced by the newly opened boutique at Highland Park Village. Inside this black-marble temple of cool, you'll find his sexily stripped-down take on Monsieur Saint Laurent's many contributions to the fashion world: Le Smoking jackets, menswear suiting, modern denim, sheer caftans and baby-doll dresses. And if that's not enough to get pulses racing, the open shelves filled with the Nina gladiator sandal, Escarpin Saint Laurent Spring 2013 pump with ankle cuff, Classic Duffel 12, Sac de Jour and Betty bag may produce a full-on frenzy. We're particularly mad for his men's classics — the Chelsea boot, penny loafer, black/white lace-up and army boot — available in women's sizes. (Shopping tip: Best keep store manager Christi Houser's digits on speed dial.) The interior, conjured by Slimane himself, is the third such model in the country, and the archetype by which all existing boutiques will be ultimately transformed. And lest you think that shadow gap found throughout the space is merely an interesting architectural detail, you'll find it repeated in his jewelry collection, most elegantly rendered in the end caps of a cuff. Another sleight of hand: Press lightly against one of the mirrored wall panels and watch it open to reveal an expansive mirrored dressing room that seems designed with an aventure amoureuse in mind. But who has time for that when there's a tuxedo-front dress with our name written all over it? Meeting legendary Seven founder Joe Amrhein of Pierogi and his artist Brian Conley was truly a highlight. In the spirit of taking the Fair + Josh von Ammon's Shaman Mama, 2013, at Circuit12 Contemporary Seven energy and paying it forward, we look at the instigators. Who are the young lions in our midst? While we planned on bringing you a lineup of the new Dallas dealers in this issue, more galleries of import just opened up at press and our feature expanded and was moved forward by the promising dual arrivals of Design District denizen Read Contemporary and, in Deep Ellum, Liliana Bloch Gallery, who already represents Letitia Huckaby, seen in this issue's "In the Studio: Ascendant Visualists" feature. More next month on both, plus other game-changing gallerists … We have on our radar Circuit12 Contemporary, the Design District gallery owned and curated by Gina and Dustin Orlando; this couple, who possess brash chops and fresh eyes, are mounting some of the highestvoltage shows in town. You must see the edgy "Regional Quarterly, Vol. 2, Concrete Jungle," starring SCAB (Socialized Contemporary Artists Bureau) members Josh Von Ammon and Eli Walker (May 19 – June 22). Other Young Lions We Love: Jordan Roth, whose Ro2 Art rolls out an extraordinary installation by another "In the Studio" feature artist, Justin Ginsberg, involving 20,000 feet of glass fiber, liquid and ice at the gallery's historic downtown space at 100 N. Akard (May 3 – June 1). Role Play + Greek Tragedy: In the Museum District, take in the final weeks of "Cindy Sherman" at the Dallas Museum of Art, saluting one of the most original, unsettling visualists of our time (through June 9). Then stop at the Nasher Sculpture Center's garden for Nathan Mabry's haunting take on bronze sculpture that recalls the tradition of Rodin cross-pollinated with Greek theater (through July 7). We're also greatly anticipating the "Nasher XChange," a citywide, local-to-international installation of 10 artists in 10 sites, commemorating 10 years of the influential museum (October 19 – February 16). Catherine D. Anspon O n the heels of its 35th anniversary, stylish influencers the world over are readopting Salvatore Ferragamo's iconic Vara, a mid-heel shoe with a grosgrain bow, into their wardrobes.
