I n the center of Round Top, on Thursday through Sunday, around 11 am, the aroma of smoked post oak leads you behind Henkel Hall in Henkel Square. There you'll find restaurateur Lee Ellis of Ellis Motel (pop in to Ellis Motel on Henkel Square any night – which is not a motel, by the way — but the most social watering hole in town), manning the custom Mill Scale Metalworks smoker for the pop-up Round Top Smoke House. The barbecue with Tex-Mex and Asian influences is available until sellout (usually late afternoon). Some days, Ellis serves up short rib tacos, but always you'll find classic Texas 'cue staples — brisket, ribs, sausage. In typical Ellis fashion, it isn't just about the beef. Look for delicious sides such as Asian slaw, loaded potato salad, garlic noodle, Murphy's cream corn, kale salad, and cowboy beans. Open extended hours during the Spring Antiques Show. @roundtopsmokehouse. Anne Lee Phillips Laurier Blanc LooLoo Design JACK THOMPSON Lee Ellis 86
