I 'm sitting at my laptop with a slight breeze blowing through the windows and the scent of freshly cut grass wafting through. I'm happy. I hope you are as well. Dallas is blossoming around me with endless new enchanting experiences. In fact, just in the past few days, I've visited two new restaurants, Kessaku and Âme, which you can read about on page 74 and 76. The Dallas Museum of Art has unveiled its exhibition "Frida Kahlo: Five Works," which you can learn more about in Catherine D. Anspon's story on page 32. The Dream Academy's "Love Parade" is playing in the background as I type. To paraphrase a line from that song that always transports me to a time in my life where the world was still opening up with wonder and possibility: "This [issue] is dedicated to the ones I love." Be sure to read the story on the grandest dame of the turntables, Miss DJ Lucy Wrubel. She pivoted when all her gigs were canceled due to COVID and has come out with an intriguing new project: a podcast. In this issue and available online, Wrubel also put together an exclusive playlist for our readers for your next al fresco supper. Also, check out Rebecca Sherman's gorgeous feature on a home designed by Wendy Konradi and Smitharc Architects + Design. It was originally a small one-story 1950s Greenway Parks ranch style; now it's been transformed into a house filled with light, welcoming guests via a two-story foyer. I've been obsessed with our fashion editorials the past few months. May does not disappoint. Titled "Dazed and Confused," it's a kaleidoscopic vision. Perhaps my mantra for the summer might be to remain slightly dazed … but only peripherally confused. I'm sure the ever-popular Aperol Spritz might help in that endeavor. I leave you with a request. I've finally gotten through every single series and movie on every streaming network. Didn't think it possible, but I've devoted many a weekend (when I could have been outdoors, doing something outdoorsy) binging everything from docudramas on serial killers to wannabe Beaches fare (wink wink, Netflix's Firefly Lane). I need something now to hold my attention. Maybe some local scandal will suffice. With all these Californians coming to Dallas and snatching up Highland Park manses with cash, maybe one of them will turn out to be a truly eccentric odd duck. If you have a new Left Coast squillionaire neighbor with a penchant for trimming their hedges in the shape of a pentagram (let's coin the phrase "turbulent topiaries") or something similarly untoward, please catch me at the bar at Park House and share that sordid tale with me. I promise to keep my lips zipped. Billy Fong Culture + Style Editor billy@papercitymag.com ILLUSTRATION RUSSELL GANDY 18
