Billy Fong Sez ... A stylish hunker bunker Suzanne and David Droese I hope all my dear readers survived the tornado trauma that we experienced a few months back. Being a bit twisted myself, the storms inspired me to poll some friends to see how they would decorate their storm shelters and pack for 48 hours during a twister scare. My first inquiry went off to the quintessential WASP and Connecticut girl, Daphne Deeds. Her eloquent response began with: "My bunker in Litchfield would require dynamite because my house is built on a solid granite ledge. But if I did have one, I would require the following ablutions: L'Occitane Crème Divine and Perricone hypoallergenic firming eye cream. I would probably not have time to read, but I'd want my current books: Bad Boy by Eric Fischl and Last Evenings on Earth by Roberto Bolano. My hunkering wardrobe would be my summer-weight camel TSE cashmere cardigan, white Alexander Wang tee shirt, black Tod's driving loafers and black Theory cigarette pants. To give me a reason to survive, I'd take a drawing from the Paul Cadmus Estate." Next on my list was our local girlon-the-go, Suzanne Droese, the B&B Italia Charles Sofa Gucci Pineider stationery Paul Cadmus' Male Nude, 1965 Yastik by Rifat Ozbek pillows Daphne Deeds Stud ALERT HOT DATES We're currently compiling our Fall 2013 Social Calendar and need all the juicy details regarding upcoming happenings. Amy Adams Restaurant Buzz ARRESTED powerhouse publicist we all want behind us as we navigate the red carpet. Her husband, David Droese, is a brilliant architect who would likely create an award-winning modernist underground pod. Unlike most of us, Suzanne responded immediately. "If we're hunkering down, there's no reason not to hunker in style! My hunker bunker would be simple, yet oh so chic. I'd make sure it was outfitted with a comfy B&B Italia Charles sofa, mountains of Yastik by Rifat Ozbek pillows, Hermès blankets, Forty Five Ten candles (in Ten Trees, please) and my Pineider stationery box, which I keep stocked with gorgeous papers. Though I love writing letters and notes, I'm always dreadfully behind on my correspondence. Throw in my boys (teenagers are highly entertaining!), a great Malbec and some snacks from Jimmy's." Always two steps ahead in her thinking, she also proclaimed she would need an Uber reservation after emerging to survey the landscape. "As I'll be in desperate need of a blowout, I'll throw on a Pucci scarf and be whisked away immediately to see my dearest Ceron." So comforting to know that we have a stylish set ready for however hard the wind may blow. Since I don't have a well-appointed storm shelter, I would love some invites to join you in your chic space. I promise to wear a blue Brooks Brothers gingham shirt and red Gucci loafers, à la Dorothy. As always, "there's no place like home" — as long as you are amongst witty friends.
