O n the occasion of our annual Art Issue, we have a lot to share. First and foremost, we undertook the challenge of assembling a feature covering The Top 25 Art Collections in Texas, beginning on page 76. We strove to assemble a group of art lovers who have been on a journey (some longer than others) of exploration and discovery. We soon realized that some of those journeys were particularly poignant — but also, as one couple shared, "fun." You'll likely recognize quite a few of the names from the donor walls of your favorite arts institutions. You'll also find valuable information on page 44 about what's in store at this month's Dallas Art Fair from our visual arts editor Catherine D. Anspon. She also gives you a peek at the spring exhibitions opening at the Dallas Contemporary and an intriguing Meret Oppenheim show currently on view at The Menil Collection in Houston, which might entice you to charge up your Tesla and make an art pilgrimage there. We also invite you to lose yourself in the pages of a gorgeous home designed by Julie Hayes in the Westover Hills neighborhood of Fort Worth, profiled by Rebecca Sherman on page 106. Design aplenty is also found via stories on the slightly rebellious new wallcovering company Parete and Vincent Darré's fantastical new capsule collection for British brand OKA. Working on this issue has been difficult at times, given the conflict in the Ukraine and ongoing turmoil in other parts of the world. My father, in fact, asked me to edit a piece he had written for his retirement community's newsletter on his personal experience as a refugee. I was completely unaware of much of his story, and I love him all the more for his willingness to share with me and others. Back to art. Never consider yourself a philistine; instead, embrace the journey of exploration. Art has the power to bring us all together. To help us manifest emotions that can be collectively shared. Art can dazzle the eye or give a moment for reflection. But perhaps most of all, it can give us inspiration and hope for a brighter peaceful world.
