Living Large with Andrea Schumacher S pending her c h i l d h o o d summers in the art studio of her grand- m o t h e r , E l i z a b e t h Monath — an understudy of Fernand Léger and Salvador Dali in 1930s Paris — taught Andrea Monath Schumacher the art of living. Combine that with a youth spent traveling the world, from Nigeria to Boston, and a certificate from the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University Design advice: "I travel for inspiration and to get a fresh perspective on interiors. My consistent takeaway is that the magic is in the mix of antiques, showstopping art, and lighting." — Andrea Schumacher Elements of Style: Stewart Manger S tewart Manger knows style. He's had a lifetime to study art and design and internalize it, from his upbringing on the Upper East Side and Long Island to internships at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Brooklyn Museum, to working for David Easton, whom he met while at Elle Decor, then David Kleinberg and Bunny Williams. By the time he launched his own firm in 2016, his reputation preceded him. His first book, Romancing the Home: Stylish Interiors for a Modern Lifestyle (Rizzoli, September 2022), explores his sure-handed approach of seamlessly mixing traditional and contemporary. In the foreword, Bunny Williams recalls the day he set a meeting to break the news to her that he was leaving the nest to start his own firm, and lauds Stewart's curiosity and breadth of knowledge. Manger singles out the theme that influenced each project, from a multigenerational Hamptons beach Design advice: "I firmly believe in buying the best when you can, but what's equally important is how one puts it all together … Just like a perfectly seated dinner party, there needs to be a common thread to link everything but from there the more unpredictable the better." — Stewart Manger house to a pied-à-terre in Paris, which features breathtaking recolored Rateau-inspired de Gournay wallpaper. What, When, Where: A panel discussion — The Importance of Important: Furniture, Art and Objects, with Richard Mishaan and Stewart Manger, moderated by Chesie Breen, Tuesday, September 20, 2:30 to 4:30 pm, at Cantoni Trade, 960 Dragon Street, Dallas Design District. and graduate studies in architecture at the University of Colorado, and one sees the lens through which Schumacher creates imaginative, inviting, and intriguing interiors. Her first monograph, Vibrant Interiors: Living Large at Home (Gibbs Smith, 2022), showcases her fearless design sensibility and philosophy of maximizing your life in every room of your house. What, When, Where: Kitchen Confidential and afternoon cocktails with Monogram: a panel discussion on all things kitchen design with Christopher Peacock, Andrea Schumacher, and Doniphan Moore, Tuesday, September 20, 4:30 to 6:30 pm, at the new Doniphan Moore Design Studio, 3610 Fairmount. Next to the showpiece main kitchen in her own home, Andrea Schumacher designed a working cook space in a rich blue, where countertop appliances are out of sight. In an Upper East Side town house designed by Stewart Manger, a large canvas by Gerhard Richter presides over the living room, where furniture with curving lines — including a Jouffre sofa, a pair of chairs covered in Fortuny fabric, and a Louis Cane table — comes together.
