I shared with her that I had been enchanted a few evenings earlier when I was seated with her dashing son, Andrew Uihlein (Casa Branca president), and his beautiful girlfriend, Georgia McElveen (Casa Branca VP/creative director). Shhh — I was sharing ideas about real estate in Dallas where they might make another Casa Branca showroom outpost. But, enough about the rooms — as you more than likely were one of the many who wandered those spaces during its shortened time frame this year — and on to the party-ready crowd. I spent a good three hours on preview day catching up with old friends and making quite a few new ones. I spotted my dearest gal pal, Leontine Linens queen Jane Scott Hodges, in from New Orleans for the week. She shared that quite a few of the designers had utilized her Leontine Linens in their rooms. She was admiring the room done by our mutual friends Lance Scott and Cecily Waud from LC Studio. Scott is never without a sartorial ensemble, and Waud is always in something straight from the runway (generally Dior). We were all atwitter about the evening ahead: a grand dinner on the rooftop of The Joule hotel that Scott and Waud were hosting to launch their new design firm with offices in NYC and Palm Beach and to stealthily celebrate Scott's birthday. In attendance would be a contingency from Architectural Digest and Vogue. Immediately I made a note to step up my fashion game. In the gardens of the estate were bars aplenty and a tented seating area arranged by the Kips Bay team. I caught up with Gonzalo Bueno (who had created a sleek space in the 2021 Show House) as we lounged on a chaise, listening to the DJ. Most of the catch-up involved comparing notes about which events we were attending during that jam-packed Texas Design Week Dallas. I'll end with another sage bon mot from Vreeland: "There's only one thing in life, and that's the continual renewal of inspiration." This year's Kips Bay Show House Dallas had inspiration in spades. In fact, that evening, as I sipped my glass of Pinot, I gazed upon my living room with newly invigorated eyes and decided to rearrange.
