ROUND TOP WINS the PRIZE S teve Rogers o f P r i z e H o m e + Garden is the latest Round Top a n t i q u e s show veteran to expand his footprint with the acquisition of a dedicated 6,000-square-foot showroom at The Horseshoe, a new venue launched by Ryan Buenning, a stone's throw from Marburger Farm. Rogers will continue to show at Marburger — his home away from Kansas City for 15 seasons — as well. "Round Top has become the epicenter for good vintage and antiques," he says. "It's Burning Man for antique lovers." The former corporate marketing and advertising exec amassed a collection of antique English loving cups that inspired his company's name, Prize. The trophies have long been sold off, but Rogers says the name still reflects the unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that make up his inventory, sourced in France, Denmark, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, and Italy. "From the 17th century to the 1970s, I'm on the hunt for impeccable design," he says. Prize Home + Garden at Marburger Farm is always chock-full of rustic furniture that bears an authentic patina or a natural stripped finish. Vintage seating is often softly worn leather or re-covered in fresh organic patterns and paired with monumental industrial lighting and found natural objects. The furniture is substantial and extremely livable — you won't find delicate legs or fussy finishes. Chairs have chunky mortise-and-tenon joinery and comfortable armrests; large tables invite vigorous use, and case pieces can hold the heaviest collections with ease. Art created with vintage and antique signage and flags rounds out the masculine-leaning design. Prize Home + Garden's new space at The Horseshoe is open March 11 through April 2; the Marburger space is open March 16 through April 2. Off-season, follow on Instagram and visit the website to track the latest inventory. Prize Home + Garden, 2105 S. Texas Hwy. 237, Round Top, prizeantiques.com, @PrizeKC.
