What better place to share such a divertissement than the 17th-century Ex-Convento Desierto de los Leones in the south of Mexico City, a cloistered monastery for Los Carmelitas Descalzos for almost 200 years. The monks and nuns lived within the walls in eternal silence, discipline, and penance. The enormous convent consisted of a main cloister, cells, refractory, library, kitchen, laundry, and garden, and a labyrinth of tunnels wound below, all surrounded by a thick forest. Abandoned in 1810, the convent was later declared a national park. 35
