Fashion Notes By Steven Hempel FLAMENCABA! THE BAGUETTE IS THE NEW CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE EARTH, SO IMPORTANT F lamenco has mesmerized onlookers for centuries. Thought to have been brought to the Andalusian region by Gypsy immigrants in the 19th century, it serves as inspiration for Christian Louboutin's Caba series — Flamencaba. A celebration of the charisma, creativity, and character of the Andalusian region, the collection was developed in collaboration with Spanish actress and model Rossy de Palma, longtime friend of Monsieur Louboutin. Flamencaba features a small tote and mini bag, three pairs of pumps, and an embroidered fan. All incorporate the spirit of local artisans and the region's rich c u l t u r e and tradition. O ur history is and will always be part of us. We create it and are then these creations are judged. For some, this history becomes an identity; for others, a guide. In Dior by Raf Simons, the sixth in a series of books dedicated to each of the maison's artistic directors, we find a man who was constantly looking forward. "We must not forget the past, we must go beyond it," Simons declared. Nature, gardens, design, and art were infused with a forward-looking perspective as the brand sought new direction under the Belgian-born director. For Earth Day 2023, Balenciaga launched the Balenciaga Regenerative Agriculture Experience, a tidy little augmented reality (AR) experience meant to foster learning and awareness of farming techniques. In addition to the messaging, the fashion house is investing in eDNA, a technology that measures and monitors biodiversity in our environment. The program seeks to restore balance to the ecosystem by presenting a more accurate picture. Start the journey at regenerative. balenciaga.com. K im Jones and Fendi have launched their most recent S p r i n g C a p s u l e , Fe n d i by M a r c Ja c o b s . T h e collaboration is anything but typical. As Jones explains, "In it, there is a sense of freedom in excess and joy, where he was allowed to do what he wanted." And with that, Jacobs has produced a collection that leans into some of the themes we've seen over his long and storied career in fashion. It's a nod to grunge and a celebration of the grit and glitter that is NYC, birthplace of the iconic Baguette, now celebrating its 25th anniversary. The entire capsule takes its cues from the bag, shown in multiple colorways and extending its influence over both garments and accessories. The capsule includes parachute train skirts, balloon-backed broken denim jackets, rustling cellophane opera capes, a n d f l u o ro re c y c l e d fur stoles and hats, all accented with rhinestones, s i l v e r , with fluorescent yellow, adding punch to the almost totally black-and-white collection.
