Fashion Notes By Steven Hempel HERE AND BELOW LEFT, MATTHIEU SALVAING CHRIS BROOKS E nter the world of Akris, the only Swiss fashion house to present at Paris Fashion Week. "Akris. Fashion. Selbstverständlich" takes a deep dive into the work of the Swiss fashion house known for incorporating art and architecture references into its creations. The exhibition at the Museum für Gestaltung in Zurich explores over a decade worth of collections, with specific insight into collaborations undertaken by creative director Albert Kriemler and artists Imi Knoebel, Carmen Herrera, Thomas Ruff, and architect Sou Fujimoto. Presenting 12 themes, the exhibit takes us from 2009 to 2022 while investigating the fabric, technology and savoir faire of the house. Almost 100 complete looks share a dialog with large-format artworks by German painter Reinhard Voigt, stone sculptures by Scottish artist Ian Hamilton Finlay, and collages by Romanian artist Geta Bratescu. L ouis Vuitton has been busy adding to its Objets Nomades collection. Launched in 2012 with a mission to empower designers to create an exquisite high-design collection, Objets Nomades has received extensive coverage over the years in these pages — and deservedly so. This year there are 11 new works by Atelier Oï, Raw Edges, Atelier Biagetti, Marcel Wanders, Zanellato/ Bortotto, Studio Louis Vuitton, and Campana, presented at Palazzo Serbelloni for Milan Design Week in April. Highlights include Atelier Oï's 1 . 2 - m e t e r - h i g h sculpture of leather and light, Chandelier, as well as their Quetzal mobile. Also on view was Australian designer Marc Newson's Cabinet of Curiosities that transforms a hard-sided Louis Vuitton travel trunk into an elegant presentation case with 19 leather-covered cubes — some with secret compartments for valuables — that provide the perfect showcase for small objects such as books, artworks, and travel souvenirs … Another showstopper, the work of Marc Fornes, a New York-based French architect, was prominently displayed in the Palazzo Serbelloni courtyard — 1,600 uniquely shaped and patterned anodized aluminum sheets resembling an organic living entity, perfectly suiting Vuitton's presence at the fair.
