Celebration W elcome dah-ling." Those words, pronounced in a lilting and slightly posh way, were heard again and again from the Dallas-Fort Worth PaperCity Design Awards master of ceremonies (and master of interiors), the ever-dashing and delightful Martyn Lawrence Bullard, whose most recent Architectural Digest featured project was RuPaul's L.A. home (he's also designed homes for Kylie Jenner, Khloe Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, Tommy and Dee Hilfiger, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani, and Elton John and David Furnish). The ballroom of the Virgin Hotels Dallas was at capacity, filled with design-world insiders who had come to applaud the winners (from hundreds of submissions across 21 categories). Vipin Nambiar, president and CEO of HN Capital Partners and the night's top sponsor, brought the designer-packed audience up to date on the Dallas Design District — of which his company owns a wide swath, as well as Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek, Virgin Hotels Dallas, and W Dallas Victory. Bullard had flown in from L.A. to recognize the talents, who each came forward to receive their big red box, the Baccarat award. The Brit had the audience hanging on to his every word. Perhaps my favorite quip of the night was when Bullard shared: "I think I'll have one of those Swamp Waters after tonight's ceremony. Isn't that what you call that fabulous local drink?" "No," chimed in someone from the audience. "It's called Ranch Water!" The esteemed panel of judges, who had diligently selected the winners in each category, included Peter Dunham of Peter Dunham & Associates and Peter Dunham Textiles, Los Angeles; Paul Wiseman, The Wiseman Group, San Francisco; Brian Sawyer and John Berson, Sawyer | Berson, NYC; John Ike, Ike Baker Velten Architecture, Oakland, California; Jeff Dungan, Jeffrey Dungan Architects, Mountain Brook, Alabama; Gary McBournie, Gary McBournie Inc., Boston; Jesse Carrier and Mara Miller, Carrier and Company Interiors, NYC; and Darren Henault, Darren Henault Interiors, NYC.
