'T was the night before … the opening of Mirador. The beloved boîte atop Forty Five Ten, with views of downtown Dallas and Tony Tasset's iconic Eye sculpture, had closed at the beginning of COVID, only occasionally reopening for afternoon tea. After this long hibernation and a redesign by Swoon, Mirador was ready to welcome back the fashion throng for lunch or a midday chamomile and scone. Headington Companies (the masterminds behind The Joule, CBD, Sassetta, and Forty Five Ten) worked 24/7 to get the space ready for the big Sugar Plum Fairies Cocktailing at Mirador event — a combined opening fête and holiday soirée — and invited loyal diners, as well as fashion-minded clients of Forty Five Ten. A study in charming entertaining cues, the creative team drew inspiration from The Nutcracker, the balletcore fashion trend, and avant-garde patisserie, paired with classic black-tie waiters, sparkling crystal, and a string quintet, which all met whimsy in the form of beribboned champagne flutes, candelabra, tutu tables, and a custom burlwood cart delivering chicken bites and fries (one of my four basic food groups) on polished silver trays. When I bumped into the divine Missy Peck, she exclaimed, "I love the tulle bunting. It's a princess moment." Well, who doesn't.
