Texas Miles and Miles of A r c h i t e c t u r a l Enligh tenment : The Halles became a nexus for a forward dialogue about what living in the 21st century should look like when Round Top Publishers chairman Jim Kastleman rounded up a trio of speakers from Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio who are at the forefront of today's most exciting innovations in building — including housing, the evening's topic. The panelists were Brent Jackson, CEO of HiFAB Homes; Tim Lankau, CEO of Hive3D Builders; and Lewis McNeel, AIA, associate partner, Lake|Flato Architects. Bob Gaynor of Dallas-based Faulkner Design Group stepped up as moderator. After the presentation, Kastleman invited the audience to experience modular and 3D-printed architecture at The Halles' handsome Hive3D Casitas (available for rental) and his Starred Sky Development in Round Top — modern, modular haciendas, aka Hacienda Grove, designed by Lake|Flato, built by HiFAB. CA Dreamy Dinner: Dallas Interior designer and antiques purveyor Kim Hoegger of Kim Hoegger Home hosted a Farmhaus Dinner at her bucolic Brenham residence during the spring show. Held inside an open-air barn amid rolling green hills dotted with bluebonnets, guests were greeted with ranch water cocktails and an acoustic performance by Cory Brooks. The dinner was created by local chef and restaurateur Tammie Mills of Burton's Blue Willow Café, with dessert from Tara Royer of Royers Pie Haven. Next up for Hoegger is an antiques and culinary tour of Provence, scheduled for November 16 through 21. More information at kimhoeggerhome. com or follow @kimhoeggerhome on Instagram. CC Music Mile: The One Square Mile Music Festival returned to the Round Top Dance Hall this spring with a lineup of artists performing Americana, traditional country, rock, blues, and soul. The event kicked off with Doug Forrest, returning artist Joey McGee, and beloved Texas honky-tonk band The Broken Spokes, along with Cactus Thief and Jack Ingram. A surprise addition to the lineup was up-and- coming vocalist William Beckman. Headliner Rodney Crowell, a native Texan and Grammy Award-winning songwriter who's known as the architect of Americana music, delighted the crowd with favorites from his extensive catalog. Gospel phenomenon The McCrary Sisters closed out the show with a performance that brought down the house.
