Stringing beads and fashioning jewelry allowed her hand- eye coordination to return; her condition, while still chronic, seems to be kept at bay by creative time in studio. The common denominator in all Hofheinz's work is its manifestation of myth and intuition, metaphorically voyaging through time and space, from centuries past into future eons. Showcased this month at her second solo at Heidi Vaughan Fine Art will be an investigation of animals interwoven with iconography that speaks to opulent decorative arts plucked from other civilizations, from the land of maharajas to the province of kings. Hofheinz says, "'Call of the Wild' finds figures and animals at home in one of the wildest places on earth, the Tarkine in Australia, as well as amongst some of the most beautiful furniture in the world." Of her source materials: "I have collected images of things that inspire me most of my life … most inspiration comes from what I have read. My files have years' worth of tears from Connoisseur Magazine articles as well as selected auction catalogs and fashion magazines." Beyond the beautiful however, this charming show bears a nuanced message: "The works of art in 'Call of the Wild' mix animals within human situations and humans within the natural world. The exhibition is intended to cause the viewer to think about our role in nature as humans," Hofheinz says. Find our exclusive studio visit and Q&A with Linda Hofheinz at papercitymag.com.
