PAPERCITY PROMOTION Burkle Kips Bay Decorator Show House Dallas Designer is Back! F or most designers, participating in the Kips Bay Decorator Show House is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. For Dallas designer Javier Burkle, the second time couldn't come fast enough. The prestigious show house, which returns to Dallas this month (October 24 – November 13) for its fifth consecutive year, will have Burkle, one of the city's hottest young creative voices, adding his touch once again. Here, Burkle reminisces on his past involvement and shares what he has up his fashionable sleeve for Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club's biggest fundraiser. You can't seem to get enough of Kips Bay. What's your favorite takeaway from years past? Javier Burkle: I've had the unique experience of participating in Kips Bay as both a designer in 2021 and co-chair of the Kips Bay Dallas alumni committee in 2023. Both have offered an amazing perspective on our Dallas design community, and the relationships I've built throughout the industry — not only locally, but with designers from around the country — have been incomparable. The collaborations, networking, and fast friendships formed are at the top of my list of takeaways, followed closely by having the opportunity to share my passion for the beauty and balance of design. What space did you design in 2021? JB: People are still reaching out to me about the primary closet and dressing space I designed with my team. I was inspired by the ideas of travel and retreat and strove to create a luxurious environment that was simultaneously familiar and full of interest. We included a bar so one person could enjoy a drink and unwind from their hectic day while the other could take time dressing yet still engage in conversation and shared reflection. It's still one of my favorite spaces I've designed, and it put a spotlight on our goal to create compositions that balance a chic warmth with sophisticated timelessness. What made you decide to return as a designer for Kips Bay this year? JB: As much as I cherish the relationships built, creativity fostered, and potential clients found, this year I'm back to continue supporting the wonderful nonprofits associated with the event. While nationally the event supports the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club, locally the show house benefits Dwell with Dignity, a nonprofit close to my heart that creates soothing homes for families struggling with homelessness and poverty, as well as The Crystal Charity Ball, which aids children's charities in the city. My life's work is to create beauty in this world, and if it can be used for good, that's a win-win. Any hints as to what beauty you'll be creating this year? JB: I can't give anything away yet, but let's just say I will be taking inspiration from my Mexican roots and love of entertaining. It's going to be a moody space that features deep, rich hues and strong natural materials. You'll just have to come out to see! burklecreative.com @burklecreative @javier.burklecreative Javier Burkle 98
