T ucked away on a quiet pedestrian-only cobblestone street, boutique hotel La Valise San Miguel is an ode to surrealism. Luxury hotelier Yves Naman purchased and fell in love with property in 2017 after seeing its stunning installations by Mexican artist and designer Pedro Friedeberg scattered throughout the neutral stucco interiors. Six suites overlook the courtyard and include baths with opulent soaking tubs, fireplaces, and Pedro Friedeberg-inspired plasterwork. lavalisesma.com. Jenna Baer LA VALISE SAN MIGUEL, MEXICO T his New Orleans icon was birthed from the restoration of the historic Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic church, rectory, convent, and school. The original 1860s complex, partially designed by architect Henry Howard, has since been revitalized by hotel group ASH NYC and architecture firm studioWTA. The interiors pay homage to the building's storied history, with a color palette inspired by Russian and Greek religious icons, hand-painted trompe l'oeil inspired credenzas, and more than 700 antiques sourced from Europe by the hoteliers. hotelpeterandpaul.com.
