The PaperCity Design Awards Dallas at Virgin Hotels By Billy Fong. Photography George Fiala. F i r s t o f f , w h o k n e w t h a t San Francisco interior designer J a y J e f f e r s was making a homecoming as the Dallas-Fort Worth PaperCity Design Awards master of ceremonies. Jeffers is originally from Plano, and when I introduced him to one of the guests for the event, Kara Goss, the pair began a rapid-fire discussion about which high school they attended and what those teenage years were like, growing up in the town just north of Dallas. The ballroom of Virgin Hotels Dallas was at capacity, filled with design-world insiders who had come to applaud the winning projects (chosen from hundreds of submissions across 22 categories). The panel of judges included Stefano Giussani, CEO, Lissoni NY & Lissoni Architecture DPC; Arezoo Shafizadeh, director of interior design at Peter Pennoyer Architects, NYC; Brenda Mickel, design director at The Wiseman Group, San Francisco; Ross Padluck, partner, Kligerman Architecture & Design, NYC; Damon Liss, Damon Liss Design, NYC; Adam Hunter, Adam Hunter, Inc., L.A.; Celeste Robbins, Robbins Architecture, Winnetka; and Jay Jeffers, Jay Jeffers Design, San Francisco. Sponsors included Dallas Design District, HN Capital Partners, New Orleans Auction Galleries, Allan Knight, Dallas Market Center, Baccarat, Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek, Virgin Hotels Dallas and GRO Floral & Event Design. As Jeffers announced the winning projects, the designers and architects came to the stage to receive their Baccarat awards (highball glasses, of course — who needs another trophy). Post- awards, many enjoyed another cocktail or two on the hotel's outdoor patio — finally fall had arrived with al fresco temps.
