T his Big Island sanctuary resides in the historic lands of an ancient fishing village and reestablishes the original and beloved Kona Village hideaway, which was devastated by a tsunami in 2011. Kona Village, A Rosewood Resort, was designed by Hawaii- raised architect Greg Warner of Walker Warner Architects and San Francisco-based interior designer Nicole Hollis with the goal of protecting Hawaii's geography and environment in mind. Walker Warner used natural and responsibly sourced materials, such as the recycled elements used in the thatched roofing. In designing the resort's 150 guest hale — traditional Hawaiian housing structures — Hollis was inspired by the concepts of ohana and cultural heritage. The color schemes and materials of the hale draw from the natural beauty that surrounds the hotel, with art works created by resident and native Hawaiians. rosewoodhotels.com/en/kona-village.
