New York City E ric Haze is a graffiti pioneer who exhibited with pals Basquiat and Haring, circa 1980s, and has collaborated with Jimmy Choo, Nike, Kiehl's, and the U.S. Olympic ski team. Street cred: Haze is the king of streetwear and has done album covers for Public Enemy, LL Cool J, and Beastie Boys. Hamptons CV with Elaine de Kooning House residency and exhibition at the Pollock-Krasner House (February 14 – April 12). Married to actress Rosie Perez. CA Must-see museum shows. Bowery Wall. Since Keith Haring painted the wall in 1982, an iconic spot in NYC. Go-to for streetwear. The Supreme flagship store. This brand helped rocket the subculture of streetwear into the stratosphere. The newish flagship is now inside a landmark building that was closed to the public for decades as a private residence and always was a bit of a mystery. Murals. In SoHo, you can see some of our hand- painted murals on the top floor of the Nike flagship and at the Levi's store, both on Broadway. Home design. ABC Carpet & Home has been a New York City institution for generations, with multiple floors visually merchandised in such beautiful ways. It's hard not to be inspired in there. And the Herman Miller flagship store — I'm a longtime fan of mid-century modern design. Restaurants. We [Haze and his wife, actress Rosie Perez] support a lot of local spots day-to-day for a cup of coffee or a quick bite. Anthony and Sons and Land to Sea, both on Graham Avenue in Williamsburg for sandwiches, everything bagels, and croissants and coffee — our daily go-tos. Also, deep into Brooklyn, we love to celebrate at The Brooklyn Firefly down in Bay Ridge. It's a nice low-key spot with great food started by our friend [artist] Kaves. B e s t b a r f o r creative types. Superiority Burger at 119 Avenue A, East Village. I'm always surprised b y t h e d a i l y specials. Galleries. Take a day to stroll around Chelsea and dip into random galleries. One of the greatest joys is discovering the works of someone you weren't aware of. Where to take an art-world visitor. Museum Mile along Central Park. Haze insider tour of NYC. I can't fault anyone for wanting to experience the tourist attractions that NYC has to offer. They are known worldwide for a reason. I would recommend everyone take in the view of Manhattan from the Brooklyn promenade in Brooklyn Heights. That view is a quick reminder why I fell in love with growing up and living in this city.
