OBSESSIONS. DECORATION. SALIENT FACTS. CHASE HALL Here and above, 12 Days of Thompson In Dallas, it's always shopping season. W h o d o e s n ' t adore happening upon Dior heels that finally made t h e i r w a y f ro m t h e r u n w a y t o t h e n e w boutique in Highland Park Village, then to your closet for all the fundraising lunches and black-tie galas our little hamlet is known for. At NorthPark Center — huzzah, Prada finally debuted right before the holidays with some fabulous opening events (hopefully we spied you at a few). And we hope you've checked out the new Wilson tennis boutique that recently opened on Level One between Macy's and Dillard's. In addition to clothing and equipment, there's a practice wall to try out the racquets. Highland Park Village had an exciting 2024 with the opening of Chanel in the spring and Dior (in the former Ralph Lauren space) just in time for holiday shopping. Café Dior by Michelin-starred chef Dominique Crenn will have opened by the time you read this. We promise to share all the details next month on what we're guessing will be one of the hardest reservations to score in Dallas. So far for 2025, we've previously announced the upcoming arrivals of Swiss watchmaker Richard Mille (in a portion of Starbucks' former space between Khaite and the Oscar de la Renta pop-up) opening in the spring and Miu Miu (in Dior's former space between Fendi and Moncler) in the fall and stocking womens ready-to-wear, shoes, handbags, fashion jewelry, and accessories … Finally, it's still being gossiped about at cocktail parties that Gucci might open an outpost at our favorite al fresco shopping destination at the intersection of Mockingbird and Preston … Three years after opening in their current location, The Conservatory has completed a store refresh. The beloved cafe, Teak Tearoom, has been completely reimagined. In h o n o r o f i t s floor-to-ceiling windows and treetop views, the expanded r e s t a u r a n t space has branches literally coming from its chocolate-brown walls and ceilings, creating a darker, moodier vibe. Intimate banquettes, warm wood tabletops, and new seasonal offerings only enhance the thankfully untouched menu, with favorites such as the Brian Bowl (an homage to founder Brian Bolke), tuna melt, and lemon pistachio tart. Try a frozen drink special, such as the champagne margarita and Fancy Nancy (wink-wink, Miz Rogers). Get ready for chic private events and a new happy hour, given that there's a new DJ set-up and evening lighting that makes everyone look radiant. The always happening Knox neighborhood has become restaurant central in recent years and is home to so many of our favorite haunts (Mister Charles, Le Bilboquet, Green Point.) If you're looking for a low-key coffee meet- up spot or a grab-and-go lunch, head to Foxtrot, which recently reopened in its former location. You can spot us there many mornings around 10 am if you want to catch up over some caffeine. Finally, we recently learned at a cocktail party that there's a new shop focused on bespoke denim in Richardson. And we don't mean run-of-the-mill jeans — these offerings are fashioned from the finest selvedge denim from Japan, Italy, England, and the U.S. The designer behind the line is Carl Forkel, who moved here from Dresden, Germany, as a child. I've become a massive fan and can't wait to order my first pair. You can find more information at carlforkel.com and on his Insta, @carlforkel.
