T he Brutalist received 10 Academy Award nominations this year, including Best Picture, and by the time you read this, its fate will be sealed. But we admire the chutzpah in creating this bold film starring Adrien Brody as an architect who flees postwar Europe to America. The genre of Brutalism in architecture is echoed in the movie: rough, exposed, concrete, geometric, monochromatic. Brutalism, in either form, has a heroic beauty.
