C had Dorsey's new book for Assouline, Relaxed Luxury, focuses on his remarkable interior design work around Texas, from art-filled penthouses to historic houses and modern bungalows. The book comes on the heels of a whirlwind of achievements for Dorsey, who has design offices in Dallas and Los Angeles, as well as his Strike showroom of bespoke stone fireplaces, including an exclusive collaboration with Ann Sacks. A founding designer for Kips Bay Decorators Show House Dallas, Dorsey was also the 2024 show house co-chair and honored at the sold-out Kips Bay President's Dinner for his dedication to the cause. He's currently at work on interiors projects around the country including luxury residences for two Auberge Resorts Collection properties, Primland Resort in Virginia and The Knox Residences in Dallas. An architect by training who worked on the hospitality side for decades before launching his design firm in 2018, Dorsey approaches space differently. He writes in the book, "I think about rooms architecturally, responding to the site conditions, scale, and daylight. I am always thinking about the architecture — I see objects as sculpture in space versus objects used to fill a space." His rooms are elevated and artistic. In the entry of one Highland Park house, a Jackie O painting by Andy Warhol hangs on a black wall above a mirrored aluminum console by Marc Newson. In the dining room, chairs by Nina Seirafi for Ralph Pucci surround a Liquid Glacial table by late architect Zaha Hadid. And in a kitchen designed for Kips Bay Decorator Show House Dallas, a faux skylight flutters with abstract black- and-white birds, a wallcovering from Trove that creates the illusion of peering into the sky. Organized by project, the 256-page book provides design insights including paint colors, mood boards, materials, and fabrics. "A patterned wallpaper, especially on an accent wall," he writes, "is a relatively affordable way to add depth and tactility to a room that may lack any defining architectural features. It's one of my go- to transformers." For a client with a c o n t e m p o r a r y art collection and an entryway with traditional bones, he blurs the lines by running plush orange mohair up the staircase and lacquering its decorative banister black. Dorsey enlisted a street artist to graffiti a wall in his own kitchen — an exciting concept you don't often see done at home. "What I've realized is that oftentimes the ideas we keep in our heads are actually really great. All people need to do is see them," he writes. STEPHEN KARLISCH THOM JACKSON DOUGLAS FRIEDMAN 72
