Letter from the Editor Your Editor's Insta post from 4/6/24 comparing himself to a favorite painting from last year's Dallas Art Fair by Sergio Miguel #nobbyknees #kneehighsocks I ' v e o f t e n said, art is t h e g r e a t e q u a l i z e r. G E D o r m u l t i - g r a d u a t e level degrees … serious or seriously silly (I'm the latter) … one percenter or part of the other 99 percent (again, I'm the latter) … perpetually pretty or calculated casual … Episcopalian or agnostic (since I prefer religion- lite, put me in the former category for this one) … T h o m B r o w n e c u l t i s t o r To m Ford aficionado (I vacillate between both). Art can be common ground where we are all allowed and encouraged to have an opinion and preference. Before you is our annual ode to the arts, where hopefully all of the aforementioned will find something intriguing. I fell down a rabbit hole looking for art quotes and found my way to the endlessly quotable Andy Warhol. I realized that his most famous line was about how in the future (which is now), everyone would have 15-minutes of fame. Did he predict TikTok? But I digress … Check out our Dallas Arts Month section, where you'll find suggestions from the ever-curious Catherine D. Anspon and myself for aesthetically engaging things to do around Dallas (and Fort Worth). Also, if your artistic tastes run to the theatrical, be sure to read about the Tamara de Lempicka exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and make plans for a quick trip down to see the show before it closes at the end of May. I was long a fan of the Art Deco artist's work, even before Madonna showcased it in her iconic "Vogue" music video — although that might have been what cemented my endless fascination. I'll leave you with a final quote of Andy's: "I have Social Disease. I have to go out every night. If I stay home one night, I start spreading rumors to my dogs." That might be me. If left to my predilection to stay home and binge the latest Netflix offering, I might spill some salacious tea to my own dog, Theo. Best to save those morsels for some cocktail chit-chat during Dallas Art Fair. Hopefully you'll find me wandering the booths at F.I.G., wearing knee-high four-bar socks and staying true to the Thom Browne cult. Stop me and let's shoot a TikTok reel and have a few minutes of fame together. Cheers, Billy Fong Dallas Editor in Chief billy@papercitymag.com 40
