all the houses I've done in my career, this is the one I would love to live in," says Jan Showers. That's no small statement from the designer behind some of Dallas' most dazzling interiors. Built around an oval garden and pool — retro glamour worthy of a Slim Aarons photograph — the house features a mansard roof and lush French-inspired grounds. The architecture and setting struck Showers as pure Hollywood Regency, reminiscent of movie producer Robert Evans' storied Beverly Hills estate, Woodland, which was famously captured by Aarons himself. With its sense of secluded grandeur and dramatic interiors, the Dallas project opens The Glamorous House, Showers' forthcoming book with Abrams, slated for an October 2025 release. Completed in 1972 in Dallas' Preston Hollow neighborhood, the house was designed by legendary architect and interior designer John Astin Perkins. Known for his affinity for French-inspired design interpreted through a mid-century lens, Perkins' architectural vision blended formal symmetry with a cinematic sense of scale — a distinctly Texan spin on Hollywood sophistication. His antiques-filled interiors carried old-money sensibility, brought to life with unconventional, fresh pairings of vivid colors and bold patterns. During a career that lasted more than 70 years until his death in 1999, Perkins worked for the region's most influential families, including the Lings, Basses, Murchisons, and Perots. D r. "Sometimes the house needed too much work, or it just wasn't one they liked. But when we saw this property, we all fell in love."
