H eiress and philanthropist Bunny Mellon was a horticulturalist and accomplished gardener best known for redesigning the White House Rose Garden for Jacqueline Kennedy, and for having Balenciaga design her gardening wear. When she died in 2014, Mellon had amassed an extraordinary library of rare books, manuscripts, and artworks devoted to horticulture, landscape design, botany, natural history, and the decorative arts. These treasures are preserved at her Oak Spring Garden Library in Upperville, Virginia — and they serve as the inspiration for a new collaboration between de Gournay and the Oak Spring Garden Foundation. The collection features hand-painted and -embroidered wallpapers, as well as delicately hand-painted porcelain, all reflecting Mellon's refined vision. Six fabric designs and three porcelain designs depicting birds, flowering vines, trellises, and garden botanicals draw directly from the imagery found in her private archive.
