Given that this is our Objects issue, we thought we'd do a little swivel on the theme — this is not about a material object to be coveted, but the very active verb that shows disapproval or stops proceedings in a courtroom. So, we pondered: What annoys us most about this season of tinsel and tippling. Pour moi, I object to the preponderance of cocktail parties in December that serve only theme drinks — dammit, I don't want a nasty Santa-tini made with some trendy peppermint-infused vodka. Give me a good old-fashioned Tito's and soda, and those spirits will get me in the right spirit. PaperCity enlisted our usual cast of suspects (interior designers, artists, bon vivants) to determine what they deplore: perhaps a certain staid and stale seasonal decor choice, or an uninspired dish that everyone seems to serve, or perhaps a tradition like watching a tired movie or sporting match (yes, we're glaring at you, ESPN). Check out the witty answers, and hopefully you'll have time to course-correct any pratfalls in your own holiday plans. I Object By Billy Fong 50
