november | page 13 | 2010 Peter & Frances Marzio Worldly Wonders at the MFAH T his fall, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, is focusing on the other side of the Atlantic. The venerable institution celebrated the opening of "German Impressionist Landscape Painting: Liebermann – Corinth – Slevogt" (through December 5) with a lecture by the co- curator, the MFAH's Helga Kessler Aurisch, followed by a reception and seated dinner in the Beck Building. Das art set: Martha and Richard Finger; Hamburg art dealer Thomas Le Claire; exhibition co-curator Götz Czymmek, in from Cologne; MFAH chairmen of the board Cornelia Long with gallerist husband Meredith; and life trustee Marjorie Horning. Next came the reveal of "Dynasty and Divinity: Ife Art in Ancient Nigeria" (through January 9) — an exhibition of sculptures as intriguing as those who celebrated its premiere. The evening's cast included MFAH power couple Frances and Peter Marzio (she organized the Ife presentation in Houston); Yusuf Usman with Nigeria's National Commission for Museums and Monuments; trustee Chong-Ok Matthews; Sotheby's duo Jean Fritts and Heinrich Schweizer; and The Menil Collection's Kristina Van Dyke.
