The momentous night, chaired by Heidi and David Gerger, drew a crowd of 700 to the Hilton Americas–Houston for the seated-dinner event, which was also a fund-raiser for HMH's educational programs and free-admission policy. NBC correspondent Janet Shamlian and museum chairman Michael Goldberg presented the award to Prendergast. The poignancy of his work was underscored when Holocaust survivor Helen Colin took the stage, remarking that such a tragedy might have been averted were there more people like the night's honoree. The merciful many: Mayor Annise Parker and Kathy Hubbard, artist Dallas Hill, Dan Dubrowski (a college roommate of Prendergast) with wife Bevin Bering Dubrowski, survivor Naomi Warren, Kelli Cohen Fein and Martin Fein, Consul General of Israel Asher Yarden, and U.S. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.
