C h a r l a p Hyman & Herrero, the New Y o r k i n t e r i o r d e s i g n firm known for its wit and erudition, has teamed again with Patterson Flynn on a collection that brings the animal kingdom underfoot. Who can forget their first collection in 2018 with crocodile and snake woven abaca carpets. For their fourth collaboration, a menagerie of hand-coiled, natural abaca rugs is in e x p r e s s i v e , f i g u r a t i v e silhouettes — an elephant covered in oversized dots, a c u r l y - w o o l e d s h e e p stretched to absurd length, a nautilus shell rendered in bold graphic linework, a bear padding across your living room. Drawing on Alexander Calder's pared- down straw tapestries, the Surrealists' experiments with scale, and 18th- century paintings of prized livestock, the collection is as witty as it is a work of art.
