55 I n 1959, a Milanese couple commissioned Eugenia Alberti Reggio, a protégée of the architect and designer Gio Ponti, to design their apartment on the second floor of a building by the architect Luigi Mattioni. The result, a tour de force of imaginative, bespoke design, is one of the few interiors from that era in Milan to remain intact. During Salone, the apartment — known as Casa Mascagni — became the remarkable setting for an exhibition curated by American designer Michael Bargo for Yves Salomon Éditions, the design and collectibles arm of the French fashion house Yves Salomon. Titled "Kentucky, Paris: An American Private Room," the exhibit featured everything from patchwork fur quilts to furniture by Frank Lloyd Wright, Paul Frankl, and Eero Saarinen. These objects were placed into an interior that seemed suspended in time, with original sliding doors and extraordinary details by Alberti Reggio — from octagonal glass vitrines and modular wooden storage cabinets to a bathroom that retains its original pink tile.
