DESIGNERS & BOOKS F ive celebrated names in interior design are in Round Top during the fall show, all signing their new books. Grab a cocktail and signed book and start your design library. The one who started it all, from faded chintz to chippy paint, Rachel Ashwell — founder of the iconic Shabby Chic brand — signs her new book Manor House, with glorious photographs of her English countryside home in Somerset, Saturday, October 24, 4 to 7 pm, at Leftovers Antiques. Then Sunday, October 25, 4 to 6 pm, Ashwell appears at Cisco Village for a second book signing. Alfredo Paredes, creative director of Ralph Lauren Home for more than 30 years and the designer behind the Polo Bar and Ralph Lauren restaurants, signs his book Alfredo Paredes at Home at the James Cabana at Red Antler, Monday, October 26, prior to the PaperCity Designer Dinner, where he is the honored guest, 4 to 6 pm. Designer William Peace and Holland & Sherry collaborate on Western Skies, a collection of furniture, textiles, rugs, and wallcoverings that debuted in January at Paris Déco Off and is on view at Moxie at Market Hill, Tuesday, October 27. Peace is known for his stunning American Western interiors and has won the prestigious Institute of Classical Architecture & Art Palladio and Philip Trammell Shutze Awards. Architect Jeffrey Dungan is known for his ability to find the soul of a place, to honor classic and traditional vernaculars where his architecture and interiors merge into environments of warmth. Dungan has been awarded top honors from the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art including the prestigious Palladio Award. One of the most compelling voices in American residential architecture, Dungan will sign his new book The Nature of Home at M.Naeve at Market Hill, Tuesday, October 27, 6 to 8 pm. T he Halles has upped the design quotient of its main pavilion and added live music throughout the show, under the direction of new investment partners Jordan Geibel Kastleman and her brother, Wylie Geibel. They have teamed with Jordan's husband and Halles partner Ben Kastleman to bring a new year- round bar, Paloma's Place, to the main pavilion. Named in honor of the couple's famous Round Top pup, the bar offers up frozen concoctions, classic cocktails, beer, and wine. In the redesigned main pavilion, renamed The Great Halle, is a painted wood floor by local artist Tyler Kay, in partnership with British paint company Little Greene, new chairs and farm tables, and charming umbrella lighting. Live music includes Moody Charles, Moody Heard, DJ Uncle Timmy, and Chris Helms. Two new events have been added to the fall lineup in addition to the PaperCity Designer Dinner (Monday, October 26) and Double D Ranch Bingo Night (Friday, October 16). Finders Keepers Market, set for Thursday, October 22, 11 am – 7 pm, brings in 20 vendors and makers from Tumbling Dice Vintage, Pepper Mango, and Tyler Darling to Kelly in Stitches and Lauren Ellzey. Finders Keepers is free to the public, as is entrance to The Halles. On the food front, The Halles chef in residence Gino Llanes partners with Austin-based winemaker Soto Vino for Din & Juice — a traditional Mexican dinner and wine-pairing on Friday, October 23, 6 – 9 pm, $75 per person, tickets on The Halles' website.
