She's careful not to let the house tip into a period piece: An Italian Fortuny light fixture hangs over a black carved four-poster bed in one guest room — a deliberate departure from expectation. Paul Ferrante light fixture. In the upstairs hall, a red-velvet Dennis & Leen bench. In the guest bedroom, an antique Portuguese bed reproduction. Fortuny pendant light and floor lamp. Moroccan zellige floor tiles from Mosaic House, NY. 19th-century Moorish chair. Kingston Brass fixture. Kohler tub. Opposite page: Pair of 16th-century oil paintings of Roman emperors. Sofa in Carolina Irving fabric from James, Syrian inlay table. 138
