Illustration Russell Gandy Letter from the Editor W hew, this has been a whirlwind fall. I just left DCC (not a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders practice at the Stadium — which, BTW, I hope Charlotte invites me to one day soon — but rather, Dallas Country Club) after attending this year's Kappa Tablescapes chaired by my friends Jojo Fleiss and Amy Ware. So many ideas for entertaining … and seeing Lisa Rocchio's mahjong-inspired vignette makes me want to make some time to play with those magical tiles. The week ahead is my version of wash, rinse, repeat: Throw on a Thom Browne four-bar tie (good news is I only have gray or navy to choose between), pour myself a foundational white wine spritzer, and Uber to yet another Highland Park soirée to serve as social scribe. I know, woe is me, but hopefully my liver is up for the cocktailing challenge. My scattershot psyche is only focused on one thing at the moment: interiors. Yes, November double-billed with Texas Design Week Dallas and Kips Bay Decorator Show House Dallas. This year's TXDW is November 9 through 13 with a roster of celebrated design authorities including Kit Kemp, Ken Fulk, Miles Redd, Amy Astley, Alidad, Dara Caponigro, Douglas Friedman, Shea McGee, and so many more, and promises to be another smashing sell- out success. Kips Bay, entering its sixth year in Dallas, celebrates its VIP Opening Day on Friday, November 14 — and don't miss the design confab, Kips Bay President's Dinner Dallas, Thursday, November 13. Also, this issue has two enchanting homes to inspire. First off, you'll find — to quote the Jefferson's opening theme song — "a deluxe apartment in the sky": a Cathy Kincaid-designed New York City pied-à-terre in a pre-war Rosario Candela building on Fifth Avenue, which happens to be owned by one of my best friends (wink wink, AH). I remember when she and her husband bought the dream pad, which she pointed out at the time was on the ninth floor, so "above the tree line" with sprawling views of Central Park. Given that she and I both spent time post- college living in NYC, we were those kids who would wander Manhattan's avenues, looking up into the windows of buildings where we dreamed of apartments where the elevator opened directly into the foyer. Well, for her — cheers, #goalrealized. Flip a few pages more, and you'll find a Dallas Spanish Colonial designed by Noel Pittman, who drew inspiration from the famed 1920s Montecito landmark Casa de Herrero estate. Finally, J'adore every opportunity when I can bring in a former PaperCity editor to pen a story. When we first started thinking about the economic boom happening in Dallas, Y'all Street, we immediately enlisted our dream team, Brooke Hortenstine and Rob Brinkley. My wheelhouse is not Nasdaq, but rather Narciso Rodriguez and Nirvana. Brooke and Rob bring new insights to the influx of banks and traders to TXSE and also have advice for Taylor Sheridan if he were to do a series. Who would I want to play me in a streamer with those titans of finance? Well, I would hope Tilda Swinton would likely play me better than I play myself. (She actually did a turn as a hilarious magazine editor in Amy Schumer's 2015 film Trainwreck.) See you soon at the Kips Bay Show House Dallas. Or, if I decide to take the night off, say "hello" to Miz Tilda cosplaying moi! Billy Fong Dallas Editor in Chief billy@papercitymag.com 46
