Fire Into the N eedless to say, the 'fits did not disappoint. From Javier Burkle's matador-inspired men's suiting to Porschla Kidd's sunflower yellow halter dress with red flowers in hair à la Frida Kahlo, guests sartorially committed to the Latin American theme. Electric shades of red, pink, and orange drenched the dining room, with elaborate flowers by Concepto Studio's Pablo Arellano and custom tablecloths that evoked the colorful streets of Cartagena. Elisabeth Landry of Silver Lining Events + Co. spearheaded the event design. At every seat, a woven fan was inscribed with the guest's name, accompanied by a shot of LALO Tequila — after all, things were bound to get a little hot at Candela. The inspired menu from Cassandra Moses, Art 2 Catering, included a torta negra that honored Argote's Colombian roots and visual language. Candela raised a record-breaking $1.7 million for Dallas Contemporary, thanks to a who's who list of arts patrons, plus compelling silent and live auction lots from international galleries including Saenger Galería, Regen Projects, Galerie Nordenhake, and Spinello Projects. Swiss auctioneer Simon de Pury, who founded online auction platform de Pury, conducted the live auction with pomp and circumstance. Following the live auction, Academy Award-nominated singer-songwriter (and Fort Worth native) Abraham Alexander took to the stage for a captivating performance. Afterwards, guests segued to an after-party sponsored by Delilah. Outside, gala-goers visited the cigar roller before calling it a night and hopping into their Alto (sadly, not a '57 Chevy).
