W ith an institution such as the venerable Sweetheart Ball, there are three challenges every chairman faces: living up to high expectations, respecting tradition and coming up with a fresh approach. Fortunately, the woman at the helm of this year's gala was Charlotte Jones Anderson, who triumphed on all counts. Instead of adopting a strict theme, she swathed the Brook Hollow Golf Club in shades of purple. As fuchsia orchids draped around lavender martinis and plum ganache trickled out of molten chocolate cakes, even the most seasoned Kenny of ball attendees marveled at the lush palette. A Troutt Lisa classical string section performed contemporary Troutt songs by Bon Jovi, Bono, Lady Gaga and Michael Jackson, beautifully bridging the multi-generations present. After an exquisite pas de deux by North Central Ballet, electric violins transitioned to "Live and Let Die," and guests Margot and Ross Perot and Michelle and Jason Witten joined Charlotte and Shy Anderson on the dance floor. Ms. Anderson, in an elegant black-and-white Andrew Gn gown, was eager to pass kudos onto her event team, insisting Shy Anderson that the evening's success was due to having "lots of trust Charlotte Anderson in a lot of great people, who took an 'out there' idea and brought it to life." On hand to celebrate more than $1.7 million raised for cardiac research at UT Southwestern Medical Center: Annette and Harold Simmons, LeeAnn and Alan White, Kelli and Gerald Ford, Deborah and Jack Gunter, Lana and Barry Andrews, Lisa and Kenny Troutt, and, of course, Gene LeeAnn White and Jerry Jones.
