SARAH KATE Cream of the Crops Pick Four: Science hearts art at Craighead Green Gallery with Gary Schafter's latest paintings — exquisite renderings that address the debate over cloning, while recalling the grand tradition of American realist art dating back to the 19th century (October 12 – November 16). Schafter has been earnestly painting in San Antonio for decades; his work merits a close look while also manifesting a smart conceptual bent … Also recommended: Benito Huerta's politically charged solo, "September Song," at William Campbell Contemporary (through October 12); the Dallas Museum of Art's much anticipated ethereal survey for Jim Hodges, who mines mystery from simple blossoms (October 6 – January 12); and Austin-based Meredith Pardue, who also finds inspiration in the natural world, from flora to rock forms honed by rivers, at Laura Rathe Fine Art (October 12 –  November 17) … For more art topics and the latest tweets, follow @PaperCityCA. Lauren Scheinin Restaurant Buzz Art Notes Gary Schafter's 3 Cloned Bunnies, 2013, at Craighead Green Gallery What began as a long-table dinner in farmer Marie Tedei's pasture in Balch Springs, Texas, is now the season's hottest ticket for those who love farmers' markets and high-profile chefs. Chefs for Farmers was founded by culinary power couple Matt McCallister (chef of FT33) and his wife Iris (creator of Oh*Brownie) three years ago to help forge relationships between local food growers and chefs. Based on last year's sold-out status, the event appears to be taking root. Sunday, November 3, from 1 to 5 pm in Lee Park, foodies can spread their picnic blankets across the sprawling lawn and peruse food booths from more than 100 chefs, farmers, ranchers and purveyors of small-batch food and drink, plus sample fare from local faves Kent Rathbun (Abacus, Jasper's) and Janice Provost (Parigi), as well as regional chefs such as Austin's Andrew Wiseheart (Contigo) and Charleston's Jeremiah Langhorne (McCrady's). CFF will recognize seven community leaders for their efforts to promote locally sourced foods. Honorees include chef Sharon Hage (formerly with York Street), chef Graham Dodds (Central 214), Brandon and Susan Pollard (Texas Honeybee Guild), Nanci Taylor (Edible Dallas & Fort Worth magazine), chefs Robert and Kaci Lyford (Patina Green Home & Market), Lucian LaBarba (FreshPoint) and the late chef Randall Copeland (Restaurant Ava and Boulevardier). Tickets $65 each or $120 per couple, with proceeds benefitting North Texas Food Bank and local farmers, at chefsforfarmers.com.
