MICHAEL OSBORNE UNCF Invests in the Future Co-chairman Lauren Randle Chairman Phyllis Williams T he United Negro College Fund's (UNCF) 25th Anniversary "A Mind Is…" Gala validated the revered organization's motto: "A mind is a terrible thing to waste, but a wonderful thing to invest in." More than $500,000 in scholarship money was bestowed on 150 underserved Houston-area high school graduates at the event chaired by Phyllis Williams. Foremost educators, business directors and community leaders honored Anthony W. Hall Jr. with the Excellence in Education Award and Delesa O'Dell-Thomas with the John and Drucie Chase Young Builders Award. A raffle of exclusive travel and event packages segued into a night of dancing to the music of Morris Day and The Time. Endowing for education: co-chair Lauren Randle, honorary chair Reginald Van Lee, Anita and Gerald Smith, Arvia and Jason Few, Winell and Doug Herron, Clarease and Cary Yates, and UNCF national president Michael Lomax.
