MARCH | PAGE 22 | 2014 BY MAX TROWBRIDGE. PHOTOGRAPHER SCOGIN MAYO. ART DIRECTOR MICHELLE AVIÑA. SPECIAL THANKS TO THE STONELEIGH HOTEL AND BETSY BARTHOLOMEW A SHOT OF G AND T CERTAINLY AWAKENS THE TASTE BUDS — AND IN THE CASE OF GREGG ASHER AND TAYLER CARSON SANDVICK, THEIR TONGUE-IN-CHIC FRIENDSHIP IS PERFECT FOR A DOSE OF REALITY TV. GIVEN THE TIME SLOT OF THURSDAY EVENINGS POST-PROJECT RUNWAY ON LIFETIME, THEIR SHOW MILLION DOLLAR SHOPPERS PREMIERED LAST FALL. MR. ASHER, HOWEVER, HAS GRACED THE SOCIAL PAGES OF PAPERCITY FOR YEARS — ALL POSTURE AND POUT IN FIVE-INCH HEELS, WEARING DESIGNER ENSEMBLES THAT MAKE FEMALES WEEP WITH ENVY. ON THE SHOW, MS. SANDVICK, HIS SWEET YET CUNNING COUNTERPART, BALANCES OUT THE AMUSING, EFFERVESCENT BALDERDASH THAT WE LOVE WITH BACKLASH REMARKS THAT DRAG US BACK TO REALITY. THE SHOW'S PREMISE — STYLING CLIENTS WITH BUDGETS THAT KNOW NO BOUNDS — IS A PERSONAL SHOPPER'S DREAM. THIS DALLAS DUO LEFT NO BIRKIN UNTURNED WHEN STYLING THE NEEDS OF THEIR DRAMATIC, HIGH-MAINTENANCE CLIENTS. THOUGH I MAY BE BIASED, I LONG FOR LIFETIME TO BUDGET FOR SEASON TWO. I DO LOVE A LITTLE G AND T BEFORE BEDTIME. LIFETIME DRAMA In repose at The Stoneleigh penthouse. On Tayler: J. Crew for New Balance shoes, suit from Zara, Hermès and Cartier accessories, all her own. On Gregg: Charlotte Olympia shoes, Céline jacket, Stella McCartney trousers and Burberry Prorsum handbag, all his own. [STYLE DNA] FIRST STYLE CRUSH: WHO AND WHY? Gregg: Dolly Parton, of course. As a child at home, I carried a red-patent 45-single-record purse holder, jammed full of Dolly music that I played on my private turntable in our basement. I would fall asleep with dreams that my mother was Dolly — wigs, heels, makeup, the whole nine yards — only to wake up with a mom who got a short- hair perm at least once a month and wore no makeup. Such is life! Tayler: Linda Evangelista. That face, that attitude, that style, that body! I was madly obsessed with supermodels, circa George Michael videos in the late '80s, early '90s. Something about their unattainable perfection was alluring to me. That era of the supermodel set the stage for me in terms of style for the rest of my life. Then my next would be Alicia Silverstone as Cher in Clueless. Oh my gosh, I thought she was everything! I was in middle school when that movie came out, and it transformed me from tomboy to "Taylered" — ha! BON VOYAGE: YOU'RE FLYING ON VIRGIN GALACTIC TO THE MOON WITH LADY GAGA. WHAT WOULD YOU WEAR? Gregg: Rick Owens or The Row or something comfy yet with some presence. I hate flying because it's such a hassle, and you know she would wear some crazy getup (and I'm not into competition). Tayler: Easy — astronaut Barbie. I had this totally glamorous astronaut Barbie when I was a little girl, and I've always needed a reason to recreate that look. The moon, Lady Gaga and flying on Virgin Galactic would give me the perfect reason: silver sequin helmet, hot-pink moon boots and all. YOUR FANTASY CLIENT. Gregg: Tilda Swinton. She is so striking and has great personal style and seems daring enough to think out of the conventional box of fashion. Plus, I don't think budget would be an issue. W I T H A L I T T L E G A N D T
