N ow that year six of the Dallas Art Fair has wrapped, we're turning our attention to goodies served up closer to home — at Heritage Auctions. Frank Hettig, Heritage's modern and contemporary art man, let us in on the action at the auction house's May 31 sale. It's a veritable banquet for collectors of 20th-century classics, beginning with a Pop text suite of 12 Robert Indiana prints with poems, The Book of Love, 1997, that carries an estimate of $50,000 to $70,000. One of the top lots is a museum-worthy Ad Reinhardt abstract canvas from 1952 in an arresting shade of inky blue-purple; it may hammer down for $1 to $1.5 million and has an impeccable provenance, dating back to its first showing at Betty Parsons Gallery. Then there's David Hammons' mixed media from 1974 that came to its owner via an exchange for a VW with a stick shift. (Stay tuned this summer for our tête-à-tête with the erudite Mr. Hettig himself.) Anspon Art Notes {Social Datebook} Willem de Kooning's Quatre Lithographies (one of two), 1986, at Heritage Auctions As temperatures rise, Carolina Herrera debuts her Archive II collection, which hearkens to non-sweater-weather days. Stocked full of shirtdresses and day dresses, pencil and party skirts, shorts and capris, tees and a personal signature of Mrs. Herrera herself: a crisp, white poplin. The capsule lineup is fashioned in six of the best-selling prints from the House of Herrera's past decade: Botanicals, Marilyn Toile, Zodiac, Love Letters, Sparrows and Swimming Ladies. The vibrant patterns hint at the maven's favorite things, including handwritten notes; a special keepsake that she received from her husband, Reinaldo, a mirrored compact inlaid with lapis lazuli and jewels in the shape of a crescent moon; a book of illustrations of 18th- century flora and fauna found at The Metropolitan Museum of Art; and a family trip to Punta Cana. Now, that's what we call summer of love. $490 to $1,290, at the Carolina Herrera boutique. Megan Pruitt Winder IT TAKES TWO D esigner Jill Haber knows handbags; you could say it's a family thing. Her grandmother was an influential tastemaker — especially when it came to handbags — who profoundly impacted Haber's style and inspired many of the designs in her inaugural collection. Her namesake company, founded in 2013, juxtaposes the elegant and the avant-garde. Vintage-inspired silhouettes speak to modern sensibilities, with exemplary craftsmanship by the Italian artisans who create each piece in NYC. Haber's spring collection is an ode to skins: python, lizard, stingray and ostrich, with exotic mixed media — mineral stones, woods, precious metals and Lucite fashioned into single-handled satchels and clutches in organic shapes and classic rectangles. Though her grandmother may have been Haber's icon, men are her muse. Each handbag is named for a notable gent who has inspired Haber at a significant point in her life. $1,895 to $2,295, exclusively at Stanley Korshak.
